Kerry Diocesan Youth Service (KDYS)

Kerry Diocesan Youth Service (KDYS) is a voluntary youth work organisation and was established in 1971. KDYS services include youth clubs, youth projects, summer schemes, childcare (from the centres only), reponds to early school leavers, youth information and training. KDYS networks with other relevant youth , community and education service providers - Family Resource Centres, schools. KDYS works in partnership with FAS, SKDP & ADM, An Garda Siochana, KES. KDYS has centres in Killarney, Tralee and Listowel and has outreach bases in Kenmare, Killorglin, Caherciveen and Castleisland. KDYS is affiliated to the National Youth Federation.

In the Greater Kenmare area (South East Kerry Mini Region) KDYS supports volunteers to run youth clubs in Kenmare town, Templenoe, Tuosist/Lauragh, Kilgarvan, Sneem, Bonane & Glengarriff. In 2005, KDYS is working with 30 volunteers and approx. 300 young people in the area. Youth clubs provide a local space for young people to meet on a Friday nights for two hours. Members have an opportunity to meet friends, play games, do arts and crafts, take part in KDYS Variety Show, Games, Youth Day, Dance night, discos.
