Dunkerron is situated on a 70 acre parkland estate bordering Kenmare Bay, on
the Ring of Kerry. The ruins of Dunkerron Castle, stronghold of the O'Sullivans
Mor, are adjacent to the 18th century house
The house has 10 ensuite guestrooms all beautifully refurbished. Polished wooden floors, log fires and the magnificent hall staircase all contribute to the homely country house ambience. Breakfast is served in the morning room overlooking the green stretches of parkland and opposite the castle ruins. Kenmare town is just 2 km from Dunkerron and boasts many fine shops and restaurants. There is a wonderful cosmopolitan atmosphere in the town which contrasts sharply with market days when one is likely to meet a herd of goats as an international celebrity. The house, located as it is on the Kenmare side of the Ring of Kerry, is the ideal starting point to explore this superbly scenic circle. The Ring of Kerry encloses Ireland's highest mountain on a 110 mile drive that includes Glenbeigh, Cahersiveen, Waterville, Sneem, Kenmare itself and Killarney with its beautiful lakes and national park. There are a host of opportunities for a variety of activities in the immediate area. Local rivers and lakes provide a wealth of brown trout for the fishing enthusiast. Golf is available nearby at Kenmare and Templenoe and at Parknasilla and of course Killarney. Pony trekking is also available. There are also 20 self-catering cottages on the estate suitable for families. Whichever you prefer we will do our best to accommodate you. For those who simply want to get away from it all, a lazy stroll through Dunkerron Estate provides the very essence of peace and tranquillity. |
